Contracts and Relationships

Interesting phrases I found during my class
Quoted from my teacher's note
"Contracts are relationships"
"Relationships are not cast in concrete - they change with circumstances (dynamic)"
It's kinda true. In order for a contract to be successful, it needs both parties involved fulfilling their obligations. So it needs cooperation working in both ways which is the same as how a relationship works. On a second thought, I kinda think that this phrase can be used vice versa. Relationships are contracts. I know it's hard to say that relationships are contracts because relationship is unwritten. No paper. No signature. But there are things in which people who are in a relationship have to fulfill. Like calling the other person asking how's he/she doing. Accompanying the other person to go to events where he/she's supposed to show up. No more casual lunch/dinner with the other gender unless it's a group thing. I know these are little things... but these are the little things that you need to do in order to ensure your relationship works. Let's say these little things as "Terms and Conditions"or like how we like to call it in class as"T&Cs".
Well not like a contract where all the T&Cs are written down point by point. In a relationship the key in understanding your T&Cs is communication. I believe both sides need to be open and want to talk about their feelings and opinions. I know it's hard especially if you want to talk about something that the other person probably will not like. Same analogy with a contract, when one party fails to fulfill its obligation, this party may try to hide its mistakes from the other. Maybe by trying to avoid meeting the other party by giving excuses like "I'm sorry I'm busy". Sounds familiar?

One other point my teacher made across..."Sharing information is necessary, but is it sufficient?" Yup, relationships like contracts need more than just open communication. They need sacrifices, trust, mutual respect, ... all the things which are again unwritten but you know in your head and your heart...
